eSIM compatible phones

Most phones released since 2019 support eSIM, including every iPhone from the XS onwards, Google Pixel 3a and newer, and Samsung Galaxy S20 and newer. The quickest test: dial *#06#. If you see an EID number, your phone works with eSIM.

Also check your phone is unlocked. A carrier-locked phone can’t use eSIMs from other providers, even if the model supports eSIM.

eSIM compatibility FAQ

How do I check if my phone supports eSIM?

Dial *#06# on your phone. If an EID number appears, your phone supports eSIM. On iPhone you can also open Settings → General → About and look for a Digital SIM or EID entry.

Does my phone need to be unlocked?

Yes. A phone locked to one carrier will refuse eSIMs from other providers. Most phones bought outright are unlocked; if you bought it on a contract, ask your carrier to unlock it before you travel.

Which iPhones support eSIM?

Every iPhone from the iPhone XS, XS Max and XR onwards supports eSIM, including the iPhone SE (2nd and 3rd generation). iPhones sold in mainland China, and most sold in Hong Kong and Macao, do not.

Can I keep my physical SIM and use an eSIM at the same time?

Yes. Phones with eSIM support dual SIM: keep your home SIM for calls and texts and use the Wakavi eSIM for data abroad.
